ARTICLE 1: SCOPE OF THE CODE

1.

a. By joint decisions of the Ministers of Environment, Spatial Planning and Public Works and Transport and Communications, the maximum limit of the dimensions, weight, load and per-axle loads of motor vehicles and their trailers are determined.

b. By joint decisions of the Ministers of Environment, Spatial Planning and Public Works and Rural Development and Food, the above technical data for agricultural machinery are determined.

c. By joint decisions of the Ministers of the Environment, Spatial Planning and Public Works and Development, the above issues for project machinery are determined.

d. By joint decisions of the Ministers of Transport and Communications and Public Order, the above issues are determined for mopeds, bicycles and manual vehicles and

e. By joint decisions of the Ministers of the Interior, Public Administration and Decentralization, and Transport and Communications, the above matters for the vehicles are determined. The integration into the Greek legislation of the directives of the European Union regarding the above technical elements is done respectively by joint decisions of the Minister of Economy and Finance and the co-competent Ministers.

2. The above vehicles whose dimensions, weight, load and axle loads exceed the specified maximum limits in each case, are only allowed to circulate after a special permit, which can be granted by the Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning and Public Works or the authorities authorized by him. This permit specifies restrictions on the circulation of these vehicles, referring in particular to the transit routes, the time of circulation, the maximum permitted speed and the required road safety measures. 3. In determining the width of trailers and combinations of vehicles, the transverse extension shall not be included:

a) The tires near their point of contact with the ground and the connections of their pressure indicators.

b) Anti-skid devices fitted to the wheels.

c) The driving mirrors when they are of such a construction that they retract both forwards and backwards with moderate pressure, so that they do not protrude beyond the maximum permitted width.

d) The side direction indicators and their volume indicator lights.

e) Customs stamps, which are adapted to the cargo and devices used to secure and protect these stamps.

4. The ends of the axles and the central parts of the wheels (hubs) of road vehicles are forbidden to protrude from the outer contour of the vehicle, with the exception of construction machinery, agricultural machinery and livestock vehicles, which lack mud guards (fenders) or have a body which does not protrude from the wheels and for which the ends of the axles and the central parts of the wheels are allowed to protrude above the level of the rim of the wheels by a maximum of 0.25 m.

5. The vehicle that circulates despite the provisions of this article is immobilized by the competent police body that established the violation, as defined in article 46 of this Code.

6. Whoever violates the provisions of this article and the joint ministerial decisions issued under his authority shall be punished with an administrative fine of four hundred (400.00) euros and with the withdrawal of his driver's license for a period of thirty (30) days in accordance with the conditions and the procedure of article 103 of this Code, except for motor trucks for which the special provisions of law 3446/2006 apply.
